Diocesan Guidelines During H1N1 Flu

The following guidelines have been issued by the Diocese Head office to help reduce the spread of the H1N1 Flu (Human Swine Flu):

  • Use hand sanitizer and/or wash hands thoroughly and frequently.  Hand sanitizer is available at all entrances of the Church.

  • If you feel uncomfortable exchanging the peace with a handshake, a gentle bow to your neighbour suffices as a greeting.

  • The practice of Intinction (dipping the bread in the wine) is strongly discouraged.

  • If you feel ill please tend to your personal health immediately and be kind to your fellow parishioners by staying at home.

  • Celebrants and servers will be using hand sanitizers when preparing elements before and during the Eucharist.

Sunday School Teachers needed

We are in need of additional teachers, especially a teacher for the older children.  If you would like to learn more, please speak to the Priest-In-Charge.

Garbage Bag Tags

If you received the "yellow tags" for additional garbage bags and think you don't need them, please consider donating them to the Church so that if we have additional garbage (as we usually do) we will not have to buy more tags.  Please give them to one of the Wardens or drop them in the office.

Parking

Please be aware that if you park on Howarth Ave. opposite the entrance to the School (see the yellow signs for children crossing) or on the yellow striped area of our parking lot opposite the entrance to the School, even on a Sunday, you could receive a parking ticket that we can't "fix".  This area is designated NO PARKING AT ANYTIME.

Cost of Producing the Bulletin

Several people have expressed a wish to donate the cost of producing the Sunday bulletin each week.  If you wish to make this donation the costs per week are:  $30 for the bulletin,
$30 for the announcements and $25 for the readings.  Please call the Church office if you are interested in making this donation.

Soup Labels and Pop Can Tabs

Karen Ball is collecting Campbell's soup can labels and pop can tabs for use by charities that will purchase items such as wheelchairs for the needy.  If you would like to add to the collection, please place them in the containers in the Narthex.   Thanks for your support.

The Food Bank Needs Your Help

Our Deacon's Pantry Food Bank is in desperate need of the following items:

  • Spaghetti (no other pasta please), spaghetti sauce

  • Kraft dinner

  • CANNED:  meat, fish, stew, fruit

  • Peanut butter, soda crackers and sugar

Please be as generous as you can.  Thank you from the Food Bank volunteers.

We are averaging 8-10 families on Wednesday mornings from 10:00am to Noon, and many of these families are single parent with three or more children.  Please help us keep up with the request for food. Thank you from the Food Bank Volunteers

We can always use extra help when it is busy to bag up the sugar, milk, flour, etc., if you are available to donate a few hours of your time, please contact Janet Timbrell after the 10:30 Sunday service.

We are also in need of empty ketchup bottles and empty small glass bottles.  Please continue to bring your donations for this worthy cause.  The need is increasing and you, our parishioners are our main source of supplies.  If you would rather give a monetary donation, please put it in an offering envelope marked "Food Bank" (include your offering envelope number).  We heartily thank you for your wonderful generosity.

Sunday School Help Needed

We are seeking people to help with our Sunday School this year, and ask you to consider helping for a period of 2 or 3 months with our program.  If you wish to volunteer, please contact

Help Wanted

Do you enjoy ironing? If so, we have a job for you! The Altar Guild is looking for help to wash and iron altar linens. This needs to be done, on average, once a month. Full training will be provided. If you can or will help, please call Mary at the church office 416-755-5872.

Eye Glasses

Once again we are collecting your old eye glasses.  The Scarborough Central Lions Club appreciates your participation in this worthwhile cause.  For your convenience there is a collection box in the Narthex.

Music

If you would like to see a copy of the new music Senan, our Organist, has introduced into our worship there are a few at the back of the church.

Check out the Church Organ page for specs and photos.

Altar Guild Occasional Helpers

We need some people we can call on to help on an occasional basis for 30 minutes after the 10:30am Sunday service in the sacristy if our clean-up team is short of people.  With summer holidays and winter snow-birds, we sometimes find ourselves short of helpers.  If you could spare some time or would like more information, please contact Betty Lamb.  Thank you!

Votive Candles

Light a candle for a loved one.  In the Prayer Corner of the Baptistry, there is a votive candle stand.   You may find it meaningful or helpful to light a candle as you offer a special prayer for a friend or loved one.  We ask that, if you do, you make a small contribution to the purchase of a candle - $1.00 suggested.

Volunteers to Assist at the Wexford

Volunteers are needed to assist at the Tuesday 10:30am service at the Wexford Senior's Residence.  The duties are to help set up for the Eucharist and clean up afterwards, assist any residents who wish to come to the service and sit with them during the service.  After the Eucharist, some residents may require assistance to return to their rooms.  If you would like to help with this very necessary outreach project, please contact the Priest-In-Charge or the Church Office.

Remembrance Candles

Please sign the 2006 Remembrance Candle Chart in the Narthex including your phone number, and let the secretary know the wording for the insertion in the Bulletin by 9am Wednesday each week.

Nursery Program Volunteers URGENTLY Needed

The Nursery Program provides a comfortable and caring environment in the Moore Room (just inside the front entrance in the narthex) for the youngest members of our church during the 10:30am Sunday service.  If you could assist one Sunday a month or have any questions, please contact Sheila Lightfoot, our Sunday Nursery Coordinator.
